A free history of Paris

Paris’s Musée Carnavalet, housed in two historic mansions in the Marais, displays a treasure trove of all that is Paris’s past in a quiet setting – there are paintings, sculptures and artifacts from the city’s early days through the infamous Bastille Day to Cartier-Bresson’s 20th-century view of the city to Les Halles’s beginnings. Permanent exhibits are free.
