Banff biking & hiking

This is the summer to enjoy the free outdoors. It is, after all, the centennial of Canada’s national park system. And when in Alberta, hike or cycle along the new Banff Legacy Trail, which opened last year to celebrate Banff National Park’s 125th anniversary.

Sixteen of the 26 kilometres are completed and organizers promise that interpretive plaques and signage will be up this summer. The trail goes east from Banff toward Canmore; it straddles the backside of Mount Rundle and the Trans-Canada Highway. You can hear distant traffic in parts, but the views are amazing. tctrail.ca.
