Get a grip on your gadgets

How many gadgets are in your house? Two or three cell phones, an iPod or two, a PDA… a couple of electric toothbrushes? Whether we like it or not, packing our mobile technology has become as everyday as walking out the door with our lunch and keys.

Not surprisingly, there’s now a new gadget to replace your gadget cable clutter. The CHARGEPOD is designed to charge up to six devices — including PDAs, MP3 players, cell phones, Bluetooth headsets, digital cameras and portable gaming systems — simultaneously. According to the company’s website, the Chargepod can be customized to thousands of devices (the adapters are sold separately).

You can buy the Chargepod as a system, which includes the base station (made, incidentally, of plastic, not aluminum), wall and car chargers and six adapters. Alternatively, you can order just the base station, which comes with one adapter and purchase other adapters later.

Either way, you’re looking at $100 or more — the base station and single adapter begin at US$49.95; additional adapter cables are US$9.95 each. Canadians can purchase a Chargepod at with an estimated US$25 shipping cost, not including US-Canada broker fees. A lot of money just to clean up your power bar? Maybe... if you consider you’ll still be stuck with the old cables cluttering up an already full closet.
