Places for the night

There are four new additions to Ontario's Finest Inns and Spas roster, and they're all two hours or less from Toronto.

  • The 11 guest rooms at Pretty River Valley Country Inn all come with wood-burning fireplaces, and several have double Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs. The inn is on a working farm with reindeer and horses, and produces apple cider and maple syrup. Doubles start at $125 per night, including breakfast.
  • The Falls Inn sits on top of Walter's Falls, a 45-foot double plunge waterfall in the heart of the Niagara Escarpment and stands on the grounds of the town's original sawmill, The 15 rooms are comfortably appointed with 400 thread-count sheets, thick duvets and heated tile floors. Borrow a book from the lending library and enjoy the view from your private falls side balcony. Rates start at $120 per night, but ask about available packages.
  • Keefer Mansion Inn dates back 120 years and was originally a family residence. The red stone mansion has 12-foot-high ceilings and nine beautifully decorated guest rooms. Nice touch: when you book online, you'll receive a $25 credit from Book Depot, and your selections will be waiting in your room when you arrive. Rates start at $150 per night. Ask about available packages.
  • The newly renovated Shaw Club Hotel & Spa is conveniently located right across the street from the Shaw Festival Theatre, in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This isn't your typical country inn. Rooms are modern with high-tech touches like iPod stations, plasma TVs and surround sound, and decorated with photography by local artists. Doubles start at $49.50 per night.
