Where to eat when in.... Bangkok

An Ontario ENT and his family enjoy an al fresco meal with the city at their feet

The most spectacular dining my wife, sons and I have ever experienced was on the surreal open-air terrace of Breeze Restaurant in LeBua Hotel, at the very top of the 68-storey State Tower in Bangkok, Thailand.

Our table was nestled against the glass railing of the oversized balcony, allowing a clear view of the ethereal city lights, the Chao Phraya river and famous Shangri-la Hotel 52 stories below! We dined in the gentle, evening breeze on shark fin soup, scallops garnished with beluga caviar, Chilean sea bass and Kobe beef — all delicious and plated with painstaking presentation.

The service was amazingly attentive without being intrusive. The staff (along with my wife and I) were mortified to notice that our then 11-year-old son had forgotten to change out of his rubber crocks for this formal venue! In spite of that, we were treated very well and enjoyed an evening we will never forget.

No visit to Bangkok would be complete without a rooftop dining experience, unique to this city. I highly recommend it for the bucket list!
