The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook

What do you do when you lose your NYC job and you need to pay for the upstate farm that was your weekend getaway? Brent Ridge (a former MD and vice pres of Healthy Living for Martha Stewart Omnimedia) and writer Josh Kilmer-Purcell turned their backs on big-city life and turned their farm into a big ol’ business.

Beekman 1802 is a 200-year-old, 24-hectare goat farm in Sharon Springs, NY and also a TV show (on the Food Network’s Cooking Channel), online store that sells goat-milk soap among other things and now a cookbook: The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook, published by Sterling Epicure.

The book was inspired by what came from their farm grounds: the sweet peas in spring; the green beans in summer; the apples in fall. The result is “heirloom” recipes that they hope will be passed down for generations. The recipes that inspire us follow.
