Slow Cooker

It's that time of year again: winter's chill is nipping at our door and we start to crave steaming hot soups and stews to warm us up when we come in from a long walk or even a long commute.

Slow Cooker by Diane Phillips (published by Chronicle Books) makes the bold claim of being The Best Cookbook Ever. And when it comes to fall cooking and one-pot recipes that you can turn on in the morning and have ready and waiting when you get home, we heartily agree.

The 400-plus recipes are divided by main ingredients or type with simple straightforward recipes that offer plenty of ideas for a little pick-me-up as we brace for shorter, colder days. Here are three of our favourites, which are perfect for curling up with on a weekend evening.
