Sweet and Tart

It was a simple lemon bar that kick-started cookbook author Carla Snyder’s love affair with citrus fruits. Her obsession is easy to understand. When it comes to dessert, the sweet-tart flavour is hard to beat, and all it takes is a quick zest and squeeze to achieve. Add the fact that lemons, and limes, oranges and grapefruits for that matter, are kitchen staples and one begins to wonder why we aren’t all eating a little sunshine in every meal, particularly when citrus juices can be added to savoury recipes too. One savoury snack from Snyder’s latest, Sweet and Tart (Chronicle Books), follows here as are a couple of her sweet treats.
