4 Paris cooking schools

1. Atelier des Chef
These classes are extremely affordable and offered daily in locations across the city. €36 for one hour and €72 for two hours. Their best buy is the formule déjeuner. Learn to cook and eat a meal in an hour for €17. Reserve online up to four weeks in advance. www.atelierdeschefs.com

2. École Ritz Escoffier
Named after Auguste Escoffier, the Ritz Hotel’s first head chef (and inventor of the Peach Melba), the school offers a variety of courses for the amateur gourmet. You can choose from a one-hour lunch-break workshop to a full afternoon that gets the whole family involved. The one-hour is €45; the cost goes up from there. www.ritzparis.com

3. École de Cuisine
Alain Ducasse, the master of haute cuisine whose Monte Carlo, Paris and New York City restaurants set Michelin Star records wants to teach the world to soufflé and flambé. €165
for a half-day, €280 for a full day — reasonable considering it’s
three hours with one of the world’s top chefs or one of his underlings. www.ecolecuisine-alainducasse.com

4. Promenades Gourmandes
If you can’t understand French, consider Paule Caillat’s 10-year-old Promenades Gourmandes in the Marais. Half-day classes include a market tour, hands-on instruction and a three-course lunch for €260. www.promenadesgourmandes.com
