African penguins return to the sea

Africa’s wildlife has tons to offer tourists and animal lovers, from the Serengeti’s lions and elephants to the Great Lakes’ mountain gorillas, but there’s something particularly special slated to take place in South Africa later this month. On the morning of September 26, a waddle of rehabilitated endangered African penguins (yes, they’re really called a waddle; at sea, a group of penguins is a raft) will be released into the ocean at Boulders Beach, not far from Cape Town. With the number of the birds dwindling, the penguin release and the accompanying three-day Simon’s Town Penguin Festival (September 25 to 27) is an opportunity you may not be able to afford putting off for a future trip. www.capetown.travel/whats-on
