Air Miles: use ’em or lose ’em

It’s time to book a trip to as far away as your Air Miles will take you. As of December 31, 2011, all Air Miles reward miles will have a date stamp of five years. Translation: all the miles that you’ve accumulated on and before December 31, 2011 have to be redeemed by December 31, 2016; all the miles that you’ve collected after that date onwards will also a five-year expiration date. Thankfully, the reward program reassures users that “no action is required by collectors at this time and more information will become available in 2014.” How nice…. This Happy-New -Year announcement was accompanied by another: the company will launch Air Miles Cash this March. The new program will allow users to instantly cash in their reward miles at participating retailers for things like gas and groceries. Ninety five miles will equal $10 off at checkout and you’ll be able to redeem miles in $10 increments up to $200 a day. Right now, Shell and RONA as well as Jean Coutu in Central and Eastern Canada are onboard. To activate: airmiles.ca/cash.
