A bed for brick heads

After years of allowing kids to build their dream castles (albeit in miniature), Lego will soon offer them a chance to bunk down at their fully bricked-out theme park in Carlsbad, California (90 minutes from LA; 30 minutes from San Diego). Thankfully for parents, the rooms are not as crayon-coloured as you might expect. Instead, they stick to three themes: kingdom, adventure and pirate — each with in-room Lego, of course — a queen-sized bed for mom and dad, and bunk beds for kids. Set to open next May, Legoland Hotel is offering a Pre-Opening Special for those booking before December 31. A one-night stay for four, including Resort Hopper tickets (good for Legoland, Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Waterpark), breakfast, free Wi-Fi and early admission to the park will run you US$609 (plus taxes). A two-night package is $968 (plus taxes). Subtracting the cost of passes and breakfast, that works out to US$166 and US$194 a night respectively for the room. Good for stays between May 7 and August 31 next year. legolandtravel.com/5759_package-list.html. [SL]
