Boarding — minus the snow
Ever heard of sandboarding? Well, it’s rapidly attracting fans in sandy locales such as Dubai, coastal Oregon and the inland deserts of Peru. It uses much the same equipment as snowboarding — a board and some wax — but subjects the rider to none of the winds and frostbite of the snowcapped mountains. It’s even cropped up in Canada: near Belleville, Ontario, on the Athabasca sand dunes in northern Saskatchewan, and even in the tiny Carcross Desert in the Yukon.
