Bond’s big 5-0

The James Bond franchise somehow feels older than the 50 years it’s celebrating this year. That might be because we’ve all heard the British secret service agent introduce himself —“Bond, James Bond” — one too many times. Ian Fleming did indeed create the character in 1952 and to celebrate The Barbican in London is throwing a party. Designing 007, July 6 through September 5, is an Eon Productions collaboration so the film company has opened the doors to its archives like never before. Exhibit highlights include flashy cars, out-of-this-world gadgets, and sexy costumes by fashion giants like Armani, Cavalli, Prada, Oscar de la Renta and Versace. Ab Rogers is the exhibit’s designer, and fashion historian Bronwyn Cosgrave and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming will be guest curators. Translation: the show will be stunning. Adult, timed-admission tickets (on sale now), $20. barbican.org.uk/bond.
