Boston's Orient expression

The photos in She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers from Iran and the Arab World, currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, hover somewhere between photojournalism and fine art. There are approximately 100 photographs and two videos from the past decade created by 12 women from the Arab world — something the museum claims is a first-of-its-kind for North America. What was the role of women in the Iranian Revolution, are Arab women truly oppressed, and how has the hijab, or veil, evolved into such a powerful symbol of oppression — these are a few of the questions the viewer takes away from the exhibit. On until January 12. mfa.org.
