Butterflies invade Manhattan

Lepidopterists and amateur admirers alike will be all aflutter at the news of the return this month of the excellent annual butterfly exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Through the winter and until the end of May 2010, the museum’s special Butterfly Conservatory will offer a spectacular refuge from the chill of the city’s streets, with hundreds of tropical butterflies flapping through in an indoor jungle. Want a preview before you go? Check out the butterflies via live webcam on the museum’s website. Adults US$24; kids 2 to 12 US$14. (212) 769-5100; www.amnh.org/exhibitions/butterflies .
