Coasting downhill

Rappers aren’t the only ones to pit the East againstthe West Coast. Some skiers do too. If you’re partial to the Eastern periphery, but are considering switching sides, note these differences so you yourself won’t end up needing an MD.

*What Easterners think of as “mountains” are almost anthills in the West. A slight exaggeration maybe, but trails marked as “easy” are indeed more like “intermediate.”
*Ski resorts in the West make snow as early as November before letting nature run its course. Bases average as much as 12 metres a year.
*Whether taking on waist-deep fluff or hard-pack snow, Easterners should ignore the instinct that rock is right underfoot and focus instead on technique.
