Freewheeling NYC

Bike and Roll NYC celebrated their fifth anniversary in June, but they’re the ones giving pedal enthusiasts the presents. The bicycle rental group just launched the Hop On/Hop Off Program with the NYC Parks Department, which allows renters to pick up a bike, helmet included, at one of their 11 mobile centers then drop it off at a totally different location when they’re done. There are nine mobile locations throughout Manhattan’s parks: Columbus Circle and Tavern on the Green in Central Park, Riverside Park, West Harlem Piers Park, East River Park, Battery Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Hudson River Park and Highbridge Park. The other locations are in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and on Governors Island. Rates range from US$12 to US$20 an hour to US$39 to US$69 a day. Kids and tandem bikes are also available.
