Free Internet in Paris

The city of Paris and Orange Telecom have come out with an experimental program of phone booths offering free Internet access. Log-on time is limited to 10 minutes and, in theory, you can check email, do a quick search for local restaurants, pharmacies, banks, hotels and train stations near each booth. This mapping of nearby businesses will always be free, but there will eventually be a charge for using the Web. That said, they first have to iron out the glitches — the system, which launched in early April, is still buggy and difficult to use.
