Georgia on your mind?

March and April are by far the best months to visit the lively 18th-century port city of Savannah. The weather is comfortable, the azaleas and dogwoods are in bloom and the city is teaming with festivities starting mid-March: St. Patrick's Day, the ever-popular Tour of Homes and Gardens and, of course, the Savannah Music Festival. It’s also when more tourists descend on the historic city. Hotels prices go up and accommodations are often hard to find.

If you can’t book early, visit in early March, right before the flood of visitors. The River Street Inn, a small guesthouse at the beginning of the landmark district has a Family Fun package for US$480. You get two-nights accommodations for two, a trolley tour for two, a Savannah River Cruise for two and complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres. Kids three to 11 pay US$35, 12 and over, are an extra US$62. Blackout dates: March 16 to 19. [AS]
