Good cause, Great Rainforest

If you have $10,000 lying about, Canadian Geographic is launching expedition cruises into BC’s Great Bear Rainforest, with the first announced trip running from June 19-27. The cruises will be operated by Maple Leaf Adventures, which often operates Great Bear Rainforest trips of its own, and will raise funds for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Celebrated Canadian wildlife painter Robert Bateman is coming along for the ride, as are several Canadian Geographic staff members. There are a maximum of seven guests per ship, and a maximum of three ships will take part, leaving from Bella Bella. The path will mostly be centered around circumnavigating Princess Royal Island, with stops including bear viewings, hot springs, a whale research station and the native villages of Hartley Bay and Klemtu. A flight from Vancouver is included. tel: (888) 599-5323; mapleleafadventures.com.
