An artful plan

It’d be great to have a friend in every corner of the world for firsthand travel advice and, of course, a bed to crash on. À la Carte agrees — with the first half, anyways — and that’s the premise behind their hand-drawn maps for those who crave “an authentic travel experience off the beaten track.”

Their 42-by-70 centimetre, matt-laminated street drawings include all the usual suspects (an overview of the city, enlarged maps of main zones, a plan of the public transport system, an alphabetical street index), plus added extras like charming illustrations and hand-written notes on bars, food stalls and galleries that every visitor should, well, visit.

Their series includes 10 destinations worldwide right now, with five more in the works: LA, Miami, Hong Kong, Singapore and our own Vancouver. alacartemaps.com.
