High on luxury

Santa doesn’t exist, but Donald Trump does and he’s coming to town. Trump International Hotel and Tower Toronto is slated to open on January 31, 2012. It’ll be the business mogul’s second hotel outside the US and his first in Canada. True to its name, its 65 stories will tower 275 metres above TO’s downtown Financial District, apparently making it our country’s tallest residential building. The smallest of its 261 “champagne-and-caviar” coloured rooms will be 550 square feet (51 square metres) with nine-foot (2.7-metre) ceilings; it’ll feature a Nespresso coffee machine, LCD flat-screen HDTV, wired and wireless Internet and a laptop-compatible in-room safe. Its stone-finished bathroom will include a deep soaking tub, separate shower with rainfall shower head and mirror TV. The hotel’s Quartz Spa on the 31st and 32nd floors will channel “vintage Hollywood glamour.” The fitness centre and heated indoor swimming pool are also the 32nd floor. From $395 a night, double occupancy. (416) 306-5800;
