Buy EARTH, for a price

It’s an armchair traveller’s dream come true — or, it would be, if it didn’t cost $6000. EARTH, published by Australian Millennium House, is being billed as the largest atlas ever produced. Its 580 pages consist of more than 800 images (some by National Geographic photographers), 355 maps of 194 countries and four gatefolds measuring 1.8-metres wide, including one of the earth at night taken by NASA. More than 100 cartographers, geographers and oceanographers worked on it, as did 50 editors. Each book is bound by hand and individually numbered by a calligrapher in Hong Kong. Its cover is leather, the edges of its pages gilded in silver. There are 2000 copies of the Royal Blue edition; 1000 of the Imperial Gold ($8700).
