Mexico’s rooftop wellness

If the thought of an all-inclusive hotspot makes you shudder, consider this alternative. Soho Playa is a new 23-room property in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen that’s touting itself as an haute hippie hotel. Located in the city’s Little Italy district not far from the beach, Soho Playa offers a wellness program along with an organic Mexican-Yucatan fusion menu with vegetarian options. Some rooms come with balconies; most have hammocks (though Serta Perfect Sleeper beds are still included). There are meditation sessions, four types of yoga, every imaginable massage on offer (Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue, shiatsu and sports), not to mention holistic healing methods (acupuncture, reiki and Taoist chi cong). And if you’re into that sort of thing, the hotel will happily refer you to the nearby Sanar clinic for a bit of soothing colonic hydrotherapy, ozone therapy and ionic detoxification. Then again, maybe just strolling the beach is all the therapy you need.
