To Montreal by the millions
The city is a top destination for tourists
Montreal was incredibly hot this year — weather and otherwise. The city is on track to receive 10 million visitors for first time ever by the end of 2016. According to numbers gathered by Tourisme Montréal, the city welcomed 10 percent more travellers between January and June compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date tourism from Spain increased 17 percent, Germany 18 percent and France 21 percent, but the absolute biggest increase came from China — up by 205 percent. Air Canada and Air China launched the direct flights between Montreal and Beijing in September 2015, the first non-stop trans-Pacific link between Montreal and Asia. Direct flights between Montreal and Shanghai will begin in February 2017.
