Montreal's Impressionist moment

There seems to be a new wind blowing at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. After opening a striking new addition in a restored church last year, the museum has lined up a string of noteworthy exhibits, and the latest is no exception. On now until January 20, the Once upon a timeā€¦ Impressionism exhibition is the only Canadian stop for 74 masterworks from the US' prestigious Clark Art Institute, a rival to the Barnes Foundation as one of the great Impressionist collections in North America. Works by Monet, Degas, Gauguin, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and others will be on show. If you have written off Impressionism without ever having seen some of the much-reproduced works in person (rather than on a calendar or poster), this is your chance to be seduced by some of the 19th-century's greatest artists. Admission $22.50; youth 13 to 30, $14.50. mmfa.qc.ca. [SL]
