A museum of broken relationships?

There’s a museum for everything. While some really shouldn’t exist - like the Phallological Museum in Iceland - Zagreb, Croatia’s new Museum of Broken Relationships is easy to love. In fact, it’s been nominated for the 2011 European Museum of the Year award to be handed out in May. What’s all the fuss about? It might have to do with the fact that all the exhibits consist of donated personal belongings from failed relationships. Sounds a little strange, we know, but think about it. We’ve all been there so we can relate.

Each item on display includes the date and location of the relationship, and an explanation by the donor even though some - like Handcuffs and Underpants - are kind of self-explanatory. An ex axe, 1995, Berlin, reads: “I finally bought this axe at Karstadt to blow off steam and to give her at least a small feeling of loss - which she obviously did not have after our breakup. In the 14 days of her holiday, every day I axed one piece of her furniture.” For the rest of the story and many others: new.brokenships.com.
