Las Vegas' solution to revitalizing its declining downtown core epitomizes the city's "go big or go home" attitude. Instead of redeveloping the existing area, the city has opted to build an entirely new one right next to it. The US$6-billion, 25-hectare Union Park will include the Frank Gehry-designed Lou Ruvo Brain Institute, a new hotel by Charlie Palmer, a casino-resort and the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, along with residential and office districts.
