Now accepting anyone: Oxford University

You might want to finance your kid’s trip to Europe after all — if he or she is willing to crash at a little place called Oxford University, that is. The British institution is once again opening up its classrooms July 10 to August 13 to anyone that applies so you might be able to make an academic out of your kid after all. Each of the 50 different courses is open to everyone — Cathedrals of Britain, anyone? How about The Novels of Thomas Hardy? Or maybe The Art of Lying?

Many classes are already full. Each 12-person, three-hour-a-day course is about $1740 a week, which includes six nights’ dorm accommodation and three meals a day, including one dinner in Tudor Hall made famous by Harry Potter films. The application deadline for Summer 2011 is May 1. www.conted.ox.ac.uk/courses/summerschools/oxex/index.php.
