Reach for the stars

We know where you can get five-star hotel luxury for under $200 a night and, after a lot of soul searching, we’ve decided to share the secret. After all, Hotel.com let the accommodations out of the bag in its Hotel Price Index released this past March. Its data is based on bookings made through their site and the prices listed are the actual rates paid by Canadians. So where can you live like the rich and famous if for only a week? Warsaw. A five-star night in Poland’s capital will run you a mere $148, up $34 from 2010. Marrakech also boasts affordable luxury at $166 a night as does Brussels ($168), Budapest ($173), Beijing ($179), Cairo and Lisbon (both $192), Bangkok ($193) and Berlin ($196). That kind of comfort in Montreal, TO and Vancouver costs in the high $200s to $400. Of course, the international cities above are not the destinations that Canucks travelled to most last year. The same study reveals that we frequent NYC, Vegas and Chicago instead. hotel-price-index.com/2012/spring/a-look-at-canada/index.html [CC]
