Who needs a seat when you can stand?!

What are you willing to do to save a buck? Lineup outdoors at 6am on Boxing Day? Scour the net for hotel deals in NYC? How about stand on an airplane as it zips through the sky on a short-haul flight?

If you answered “yes” to all three, including the last one, you’re in luck. Italy’s Aviointeriors just launched SkyRider, an ultra-high density seat with 23 inches of pitch, or the distance between one point in a seat and the same point in the seat ahead.

What does that mean? Consider that most coach seats have at least 31 inches of pitch — a few discount airlines have 28 — and we think you can imagine. And that’s probably all you want to do; imagine, that is. Especially when the semi-standing position, which is supposed to be “a comfortable, dynamic, upright and healthy position,” has been described by some reviewers as an amusement-park thrill ride.

Of course, there are also safety concerns in the event of an evacuation. No airlines have bit yet. No kidding.
