Whistler’s fat chance
The biggest off-slope sport in ski country now
MDs who miss cycling in winter will want to try fat-tire biking, the hottest off-slope sport in ski country at the moment and now possible at Whistler Olympic Park. Four bikes with puffy wheels designed to roll easily over snow are available for rent: two large and two medium adult frame sizes ($20). The bikes are permitted on designated trails, open on a daily basis depending on weather and snow conditions. The rentals aren’t equipped with lights so riders should bring their own headlamp and/or bike lights particularly on Wednesday evenings when fat bikes are allowed on additional trails beginning at 5pm. Guests can bring their own snow specific bikes; tires must be 3.75 inches (9.38 centimetres) or wider with a tire pressure less than 10 PSI. A valid season ski pass or day ticket is required. whistlersportlegacies.com/fat-bikes-whistler-olympic-park.
