Bon Voyage: Travel apps

Some of these you already use, others are fairly new:

1. Hotels.com has a massive database of over 220,000 hotels in 200 countries, many offering last-minute deals.

2. Viator Tours and Activities lets you book discounted guided tours in some of the world’s top cities.

3. Wi-Fi Finder (by JiWire) shows you where to find free wireless connections in up to 650,000 spots in 144 countries. You can search by directory or simply enable the scanner to locate the nearest hot spots.

4. Urbanspoon gives you restaurants choices in Canada, the US, most of the UK and Australia. Narrow it down by neighbourhood, price and cuisine, then read reviews before deciding. If you’re interested, check for a table and make a reservation.

5. Foursquare is a traveller’s best friend. Open the app anywhere in the world and see what other travellers recommend you see, do and taste. Over 35 million people have already done so.

6. XE Currency gives you up-to-the-minute exchange rates for more than 180 currencies. It’ll store the last updated rates, so it also works offline.

7. HopStop Transit Directions gives you door-to-door public-transit information to up to 600 cities.

8. My Disney Experience makes navigating Disney’s parks slightly easier. Maps and wait times for the rides. Plus, menus and lets you reserve at park restaurants.
