Cairo: A felucca on the Nile

After a day dodging donkey carts and minibuses on the busy streets, or wandering the corridors of the sprawling Egyptian Museum, you deserve a moment of calm. Before day's end, head to the Corniche, the city's riverside boulevard, to arrange a cruise aboard a felucca. These are Egypt's traditional wooden sailboats with large white sails and they will whisk you away as the sky turns pink and the bustle of the city slips away. The best spots to hire one are in front of the Four Seasons Nile Plaza Hotel in the Garden City district or near the Grand Café in the Maadi district. Rates should be under $20 an hour. www.egypt.travel.
