High on heirloom tomatoes

It’s time to think about what you’re going to plant in your garden. This year you might consider the latest trend: heirloom tomatoes. Thanks in part to Michelle Obama’s fecund White House garden, heirloom tomatoes are suddenly the hippest items in the vegetable patch, and for good reason: their seeds spread by natural, “open” pollination and obviously they’re much more flavourful. Seeds can be found locally or ordered from sites like Upper Canada Seeds. Based in Prince Edward County, ON, all of their seeds are organically grown and most of their 250-plus varieties are heirlooms.
