Lock horns in Alberta

Taste Canada right off the field

The countryside surrounding Calgary is rife with small producers who pour their hearts into growing crops that are sustainable and healthy. Each summer, chef and food writer Dee Hobsbawn-Smith packs 40 city dwellers into a yellow school bus for her annual Foodie Tootle, driving them out to her favourite growers and producers of hormone-free cattle and organic fruits, vegetables and herbs. Everyone gets to sample the wares and then buy their favourites from the farm gate. To sign up for this year’s tootle, call the Cookbook Company in Calgary (403) 265-6066. Or toot your own horn after checking out the map at http://albertafarmfresh.com .
