$99 rooms at new Vancouver hotel
A chain of western Canada and US hotels has opened up a new property in Vancouver, and with it comes an excellent grand-opening deal: just $99 a night through April 27.
That’s a great price for a hotel as attractive and conveniently located as this one, called the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. It’s on West Hastings St. (not East Hastings, in the infamous downtown eastside) and just a few minutes walking distance from Stanley Park in one direction and the rest of downtown in the other.
Upgrades to Superior rooms are available for $20 per night.
Book by Saturday, March 20.

Finland drops rates for Canadians
Finnair has cut the cost of airfare on its Toronto-Helsinki route by an immense amount for travel this summer. They’re charging a little more than half of what you’d pay to fly Air Canada, with round-trip flights starting as low as $625, depending on when you fly, plus about $180 in taxes and fees.
Of course, you might not have been thinking about Helsinki when you were considering where to vacation this summer. In fact, you might never have thought about Helsinki in your life. That’s okay. You’ve got time to bone up on Finnish attractions before the deal begins: the offer is good for travel Sundays through Thursdays from June 6 to September 9.
Finnair also has good deals on flights from Toronto to Russia, Germany, Sweden and other destinations.

Great skiing, crappy lodging, amazing price
It’s not often a resort advertises itself proudly as a “brokedown palace” and boasts of the poor quality of its lodging. But that’s what the Hotel Jay, at Jay Peak ski resort in northern Vermont, is doing. The reason? They’re trying to fill up the rooms in their soon-to-be-demolished hotel by offering a really, really, really cheap trip.
It’s hard to beat this: US$59 per person per day for a hotel room, lift ticket, breakfast and dinner. Children under 14 are free and there’s daycare offered gratis for kids two to seven. It’s not easy to get any one of those things — a hotel room, a lift ticket, two meals — for that price, never mind all three.
The deal is on for spring-skiing stays from April 8 through 18. The old hotel comes down the day after the deal ends.

A hotel deal plus Tut in Toronto
What better time to visit the ambitious and comprehensive King Tut exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario than now, just as the results of the latest forensic anthropological investigation into the young king’s death appear in the new issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association?
As it turns out, he appears to have died of malaria and avascular bone necrosis — not a post-fracture infection nor homicide, as had previously been believed. The new evidence makes the AGO’s well-reviewed exhibit even more interesting.
For out-of-towers, the Westin Harbour Castle hotel is offering a $279 package deal for families including four VIP passes (two adult and two children) that let you into the King Tut exhibit without waiting in line. The deal includes one night’s stay at the downtown Toronto hotel and breakfast at the Mizzen restaurant. Not bad considering that King Tut tickets alone start at $28.50 for adults and $16.50 for kids six to 17.
The deal is good until April 18. (866) 716-8101; Click here to visit the website.
